How to file your MCS-150 (FMCSA Portal + AskFMCSA ticket)

We generate your completed MCS-150 PDF using public USDOT data. You submit it to FMCSA yourself using the official Portal or by uploading it in an AskFMCSA ticket.

Important
We do not submit or file forms with FMCSA. We only generate the PDF. You file it directly with FMCSA to save money and stay in control.
Many third-party services charge $175–$250 to “handle it.” If you file it yourself using the official FMCSA systems, you can often save about $200.
What changed (why the Portal matters)
FMCSA moved online registration updates into the FMCSA Portal to support multi-factor authentication (MFA). The Portal is now the primary platform for many online updates to existing registration accounts.
Common online updates include
  • File a biennial update (MCS-150)
  • Change of address
  • Apply for additional operating authority
  • Reinstate operating authority
  • Reapplication for USDOT Number after revocation
  • Other registration-related updates depending on your situation
What you need before you start
Have these ready to avoid delays.
  • Your USDOT number
  • A government-issued ID (most commonly a driver’s license)
  • Ability to complete identity verification if prompted (QR code + selfie + ID photos)
  • Any supporting documents related to the change you’re making
Option A: file online in the FMCSA Portal
Use this if you can access your FMCSA Portal account and your update is available online.
  1. Sign in to the FMCSA Portal using your Login.gov email.
  2. Open the Registration menu after logging in (Company Officials typically see it automatically).
  3. Complete your update and upload documents when prompted (often includes your ID).
  4. Submit and save your confirmation or reference number.
Associates (employees / third-party help)
If you are not the Company Official, you may need roles approved by the Company Official to view or modify company information. If your associate account already exists, request the roles: “Portal View Sensitive Company Information” and “Portal Modify Company Information.”
Option B: upload your PDF using AskFMCSA (submit a ticket)
Use this if you can’t access the Portal right now or FMCSA requires the request to be submitted by ticket.
  1. Generate your completed MCS-150 PDF on our site.
  2. Open the official AskFMCSA ticket page:https://ask.fmcsa.dot.gov/app/ticket
  3. Fill out the ticket details (choose the best matching category for your request).
  4. Attach:
    • your completed MCS-150 PDF
    • a photo/scan of your driver’s license (or other government-issued ID)
    • any supporting docs required for your change
  5. Submit and save your ticket confirmation number.

New registration is different (first-time USDOT / operating authority)
If you’re applying for a new USDOT number or new operating authority for the first time, you typically use URS and complete identity verification.
  • Scan a QR code on your phone/tablet
  • Take photos of your ID (front and back)
  • Take a selfie/facial scan
  • Return to URS to finish submitting
Heads up
For a complete submission, FMCSA often requires supporting documents, including a valid government-issued ID. Have your driver’s license ready.
